For the past several weeks, there has been a lot of talk about Spurs’ priority to recruit a central defense in January, and Caceres is reportedly one of the players at the top of the wishlist (90 minutes).

According to reports, Premier League scouts saw the 24-year-old playing for Uruguay and were quite satisfied with what they saw (Football Insider).

The Tottenham offer for Cacares was rejected.

The most recent report on Esquivel is that Club America rejected a deal from Spurs for the defender, who was given £3 million plus a percentage as a sell-on clause.

It is claimed that Caceres is valued at approximately £7 million by the Mexican side, but they would accept £5 million in addition to the suggested sell-on clause.

The reporter continues, saying Tottenham is still in talks about a deal and will likely launch another one soon.

With the fees being discussed, Tottenham will not lose anything even if Caceres struggles to adjust to life in the Premier League, making this a pretty risk-free acquisition. Thus, maybe the Lilywhites think it’s a risk worth taking.
