“Tottenham Considering Early Recall for Loaned Defender in January”

Japhet Tanganga, a graduate of the Tottenham academy, advanced through the ranks and achieved some success under previous boss Jose Mourinho.

Since then, though, his career has stagnated, and the young defender ended up on the fringes of Antonio Conte’s team the previous year.

Tanganga was decided to be sent on loan to the German team Augsburg for the entire season because Ange Postecoglou obviously saw no real purpose for him this year either.

A dismal start to his stay in Germany saw Tanganga out injured for a long length of time. He is back fit again, though, but was still left out of the Augsburg squad at the weekend.

The Tanganga loan arrangement is largely in Spurs’ hands.

Spurs may now want to finalize that agreement early, according to a report from Kicker, since the agreement permits the North London team to end the loan at any point throughout the season.

The issue is that Augsburg now plays four at the back instead of five at the back. This indicates that they have an excess of center halves in their squad because they have six of them.

Tanganga is thought to be training well, but “hasn’t been an option” for the Bundesliga outfit as of yet. It’s not “quite possible” that Spurs will “reconsider” and bring Tanganga back to London.

Whether that is to arrange a new loan move, or to keep him for themselves, remains to be seen. Injury to Micky van de Ven, and doubts over the future of Eric Dier, could pave a path for Tanganga to return to the Spurs first team.

Spurs Web Opinion

There’s no point having a player out on loan if they’re not going to play football. Tanganga may as well be on our bench rather than doing nothing in Germany. We need every player we can get right now!
