No. 11 of Manchester United Now, Rasmus Hojlund has praised Erling Haaland, the number nine for Manchester City.

Regarding the Norway international, the Danish international talked to TV2.

So, what did Rasmus Hojlund say about Erling Haaland? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the £72m striker revealed that he looks up to the Manchester City talisman, and hopes to become as good as him in future.

Hojlund said: “I hope that one day I can reach his level, but right now, I think it is too early. Erling is in any case the world’s best striker, if not the world’s best footballer. I don’t really want to be compared to him, but I hope that one day I can be like him.”

Clearly, the 20-year-old has a lot of respect for the 23-year-old, despite the fact the fellow Scandinavians are now rivals in Manchester.

These comments may – therefore – not go down too well with the more tribal Manchester United fans among us, but it is nice to see Hojlund put rivalries aside to praise Haaland.

Hojlund praise emphasises how much Haaland has achieved

It felt strange to read Hojlund’s comments about idolising someone who is only three years older than him.

Nevertheless, that just goes to show how much Haaland has already achieved in his short footballing career to date.

The Leeds-born striker has remarkably scored 195 goals in just 248 appearances at club level, winning the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup and UEFA Super Cup in England.

Haaland has also scored 27 goals in just 28 outings for Norway – he could quite feasibly become the greatest striker of all time, at least in terms of numbers.

Hopefully, Hojlund isn’t watching Haaland too closely, and fails to replicate the Norwegian’s stunning efforts at Manchester United – despite his kind words, a rivalry is a rivalry at the end of the day.
