Spurs’ Warrior Rises: Player Takes ‘Significant Step’ Towards Recovery from Injury

Ryan Sessegnon has taken a significant step in his return from injury by beginning light training at Hotspur Way this week.

Ryan Sessegnon has made only 56 appearances for Tottenham since joining the club in 2019 (Transfermakrt).

Although some of that time was spent on loan at German club Hoffenheim, Sessegnon’s lack of playing time has been mostly due to poor form and a string of ailments.

Sessegnon has a history of ailments and has been out since February of this year with a hamstring strain.

At present, the left-back position at Tottenham is not a problem at all, with new boy Destiny Udogie proving to be the perfect fit for Ange Postecoglou‘s system.

However, with an injury to Ivan Perisic last week which could keep him out for up to six months, cover is likely to be needed in that position sooner rather than later.

That cover is on its way, it seems, as the Daily Mail report Sessegnon has begun light training as he ontinues his recovery.

It is thought this signals a “major fitness boost” for Spurs as Sessegnon starts a programme of running on grass, marking a “significant step on his road to recovery.”

While the left-sided player is “still a number of weeks” out from taking part in more active training sessions with his teammates, he is thought to be “on schedule.” Apparently, the club are taking a “cautious approach” to Sessegnon’s rehabilitation.

Sessegnon is expected to be a “vital part” of Postecoglou’s team and there is hope the 23-year-old can put his injury issues behind him.

I will be very curious to see how Sessegnon fits into this Spurs squad. He’s a player I would have expected might not have a future at the club, but there’s a chance Postecoglou may be able to get a tune out of him.
