Tottenham are reportedly considering a move for Borussia Monchengladbach defender Ko Itakura, with Liverpool also eyeing the centre-back.

The Japanese international has caught the attention of Premier League clubs despite an injury-plagued season with the Bundesliga club, with Itakura making just eight appearances in all competitions.

A player who was once on Manchester City’s books, Itakura is still regarded as one of the most under-rated defenders in Germany, and Tottenham could now move for the 26-year-old.

According to Sky Germany, both Spurs and Liverpool have put out feelers to sign Itakura, who could be available for as little as €10m (£8m) if the defender’s release clause is to be believed.

Likened to Tottenham icon Jan Vertonghen via the Bundesliga’s official website, it’s no real wonder why Tottenham are interested in signing Itakura.

And with Ange Postecoglou wanting the Japanese international during his time at Celtic, the Tottenham manager could finally get his wish to bring Itakura to British shores this year.

  • Ko Itakura could complete Tottenham’s centre-back options

With Tottenham seeing an overhaul at centre-back in the last two windows, it only makes sense that a fourth and final quality addition is made to complete the set.

And Itakura could just be the perfect option for the north London side, with the defender showcasing in Germany why he would be an ideal fit for a club like Tottenham.

With the Gladbach star also potentially available at a bargain price, it seems like a no-brainer for Tottenham to move for Itakura, especially if Postecoglou has once tried to sign the defender.
