Spurs made it a top priority to sign a new defender over the summer in order to strengthen their defense, which gave up 63 goals in the league the previous year.

Even though there were rumors that the North London side was pursuing a number of targets, Ange Postecoglou ultimately settled on Micky van de Ven. That choice appeared to be a wise one when the Dutchman performed well in the first ten games of the season.
