Agne Despite his goal against Wolves, Postecoglou thinks he expected more from Brennan Johnson of Tottenham Hotspur.
Brennan Johnson, a standout for Tottenham Hotspur, scored in yesterday’s 2-1 Premier League loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Given James Maddison’s recent injury, it is anticipated that the youthful winger will play a more significant part in attack. He made an impact from the start against Wolves by winning a cross from Pedro Porro and running a brilliant run inside the area.

Nottingham Forest paid a hefty price to sign Johnson, 22, in the summer. £47.5 million is a hefty sum for a player with little to no prior experience competing at the highest level.

Apparently, Ange Postecoglou thinks more of Johnson. When asked if the goal would give the Welshman more confidence, the Greek-Australian strategist responded as follows (h/t Football.London):

What is meant by Postecoglou?
I’m hoping so. It is not the exclusive metric. He’s one of the players who, in my opinion, could have contributed a little more to our cause in the first half, but Brennan hasn’t exactly got a clear shot at it. He’s had a really rough start to his career for us, but I believe that the more opportunities we can give him, the more potential he has.

“He has a greater potential for goals, but as you could see at the end, he ran out of legs because he hasn’t played much football since the beginning of the season.”

For his new team, Johnson has now appeared in six games with a goal and an assist. Remember that he is still a relatively young player and will only become better.

If you take away the goal against Wolves, the performance was mediocre at best. What else could he have done, though? Postecoglou is aware that he hasn’t played a lot of games for Tottenham.

Of course, stamina is something that can be improved. It’s no secret that Ange wants his wingers to provide defensive support as well, and if Johnson continues to play at this caliber for us, he will undoubtedly develop into a top player.

He will be around for a while, at least until Maddison returns.
