Kobbie Mainoo will not feature in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Carrington this week as had originally been planned.

Since hurting his ankle during United’s preseason trip, the midfielder has been out for nearly two months.

Mainoo was the tour’s early standout, appearing in three matches before making his debut against Real Madrid in his fourth appearance.

Erik ten Hag lauded the 18-year-old after he was voted Man of the Match in a victory over Arsenal.

He did, however, return to training last week and practised alongside the first team prior to the Champions League loss to Galatasaray.

Ten Hag is hoping that Mainoo will play with Sergio Reguillon and Raphael Varane in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Barnsley on Tuesday.

According to the Daily Mail, the game came too soon for Mainoo, and his comeback date has thus been pushed back.

Long-term absentees include Luke Shaw and Lisandro Martinez, while Tyrell Malacia is still up to three weeks away.

When United returns from their international break, they face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

Ten Hag is hoping to get Reguillon back after he has been out for three weeks.
