“Man United Ace Shines at Real Madrid Level on Loan”

That goal brought back memories of the rocket he fired into the Leicester City net in October of 2021. A strike that occurred just a few months before Manchester United suspended Mason Greenwood.

Greenwood’s 30-yard bomber during last weekend’s 2-1 victory over Almeria, his first game back playing regularly for the first team since then, served as a reminder of why there was such a buzz at Old Trafford when the academy product made his debut under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Mason Greenwood scores a stunning goal in La Liga.

“He was struggling when he started (at Getafe) since he hadn’t played in a while. However, Terry Gibson, a La Liga analyst and former Man United forward, notes on El Tel and Jon’s La Liga Weekly podcast that “the goal at the weekend was just breathtaking.”

“He looks now to be nearing full fitness and he’s going to be an incredible asset to Getafe.”

The former England international now has five goals or assists in just seven starts in Spain’s top flight. That net-buster against Almeria, Gibson argues, would not have looked out of place at the Camp Nou or at the Santiago Bernabeu, the reaction from a stunned Getafe crowd belying a fanbase who have seldom witnessed talents of such searing potential.

‘A brilliant strike’

“He shouldn’t be at Getafe in terms of the quality and the level of his play. You look at him and you think; ‘That is a Barcelona or Real Madrid-level player’,” Gibson adds.

“It was a brilliant goal. A brilliant strike. A look of surprise from everyone in the stadium because they are not used to that quality!

“From a football perspective, he is of a level far too high for Getafe. He’s not going to be at Getafe next season.”

Exactly where Greenwood will be plying his trade in 2024/25, then, remains to be seen. According to The Sun, there is interest from other La Liga clubs should he wish to stay in Spain. Valencia are one. A Real Sociedad side who tried and failed to bring in Donny van de Beek during the summer are another.
