As a string of injuries threatens to destroy Tottenham’s season, the team’s supporters have become accustomed to the bad news in recent weeks.

Major injuries to James Maddison and Micky van de Ven have been Ange Postecoglou’s concern in recent weeks; Richarlison is also out. It’s been a terrible few weeks when you add in two straight losses plus Cristian Romero’s suspension.

But defender Van de Ven seemed to raise some Tottenham supporters’ expectations earlier when he tweeted an egg-timer emoji on Instagram, seemingly hinting at a quicker return.

However, Tottenham journalist Alasdair Gold has put a dampener on things by claiming that, as far as he is aware, nothing has changed with the Dutchman on social media through X.

It seems, then, that Tottenham fans won’t be seeing Van de Ven until the new year, as Postecoglou first suggested.

Tottenham need Van de Ven back quickly

There is no doubt that the injury to Van de Ven is a huge problem for Spurs at the moment.

His pace and ability to keep up with Premier League defenders in Spurs’ high-line defence has been exactly what Ange has needed.

Of course, the club might well move for a new defender in January, with Lloyd Kelly among the options being considered by Tottenham.

But they have to return Van de Ven as soon as possible. Yes, considering the nature of the damage, caution is necessary. However, Romero’s status as a walking card makes him even more crucial to Spurs.

Although some Spurs fans were enthused by his Instagram post today, it appears that nothing has changed as of yet.
