“Barcelona’s midfield target is considering extending their deal with Bayern Munich.”

The midfield position in the team needs to be strengthened, so Barcelona’s technical staff is searching for a player. The target is long-term, considering both the present and the future due to the financial limitations.

Barça are well aware that a top player demands a significant investment for a key position. Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, with a €60 million release clause, is a player that manager Xavi likes.

Barcelona, however, is still considering Joshua Kimmich, a mainstay in Bayern Munich’s midfield who was also on the team’s summer roster.

Every possibility available to Kimmich

Even though Barcelona is interested in Kimmich, the expensive Bayern Munich player with a contract that expires in 2025, Gabriel Sans of Mundo Deportivo reports that the team is being cautious in its pursuit of the player.

Oriol Romeu was never Barça’s top target, despite the fact that they signed him last summer. Upon learning that Zubimendi would not be attending, the Catalans turned their attention to Kimmich, who was willing to switch, though nothing materialized.

Xavi is still a fan of Kimmich and has openly praised him in the past. He views the German as one of the best players in the world who has an incredible understanding of Barça’s positioning.

Regarding Kimmich’s position regarding the future, nothing is set in stone just yet. The player has no intention of leaving during the winter transfer window. His primary goal is to win the Champions League, but he intends to finish the season with Bayern and contend for every title.

Kimmich does not completely rule out talking to Bayern Munich about extending his contract after that. Meanwhile, a number of reports claim that Xavi has been in talks, raising the possibility that he will eventually want to join Barcelona.

Hence, it is unclear how things will turn out in regards to Kimmich and Barcelona.
