Barcelona and Real Madrid are primed to contend for the La Liga title again this season, as they currently hold the top two spots in the rankings. That has been the standard in Spanish football for over two decades, with the exception of two occasions when Atletico Madrid was able to write underdog stories and win the Spanish championship.
The two teams are now separated by only one point. Despite the criticism heaped on Real Madrid following their defeat to Atletico Madrid, they remain the league’s best club. Barcelona is in second place.
As a result, it goes without saying that the two El Clasicos in La Liga might be crucial in determining the fate of the league of the league title. The first one is set to be played later this month.
Barcelona were handed a major blow earlier when Robert Lewandowski suffered an injury that could see him miss the first El Clasico of the season. There is some good news for the Catalan giants as well though.
Barcelona handed great news for El Clasico vs Real Madrid
It looks like Pedri could be fit in time to take on Real Madrid. As reported by SPORT, when asked about his return on the digital application ‘The Residency‘:
“If everything goes well, I will be at my best in the Clasico.”
Pedri has been out injured since August and is believed to be in the final stretch of his recovery now. It looks like the Spaniard is optimistic about not only his chances of making the first El Clasico of the season but also aiming to be at his best for the game.
Of course, Real Madrid are without a number of key players through injury as well. They have continued to get wins though, which is the most important thing.
That being said, they did struggle against a top team in Atletico. And their recent record against Barcelona is bad.
