According to reports, Barcelona is committed to getting Joao Cancelo from Manchester City on a permanent basis the next year.

The Portuguese full-back was successfully signed by the Spanish champions on loan from City, outbidding Bayern Munich for his services. Under Xavi, Cancelo has quickly emerged as a key member of the team.

Barcelona is reportedly working on a bid for City, who are looking to pay Cancelo about £44 million, according to Football Espana. A £22 million down payment and three years’ worth of payments would be required for the planned arrangement.

Joao Cancelo may be loaned to Barcelona for another season, according to a report from Diario Sport on Friday. But according to reports, Manchester City would only consent to such a deal if it included a mandatory £30 million buy clause. This raises the possibility of a discussion point between the two teams about Cancelo’s terms for staying on at Barcelona.

The Portuguese international has enjoyed his time at Barca so far scoring twice and assisting once in 10 La Liga games, but he is yet to get off the mark in the Champions League in his four starts.

With Manchester City’s lack of need for a full-back Cancelo will likely seek a new club next summer even if Barcelona and City can’t get a deal done.
