On the day of the deadline, Mason Greenwood was permitted to go on loan from Manchester United.

Mason Greenwood’s loan at Manchester United expires at the end of the season, but the club apparently insists he never play for them again. Although the forward is making an impression while on loan at Getafe, the Red Devils do not anticipate that his performances will change their perspective.

In February, the Crown Prosecution Services (CPS) retracted the accusations of attempted rape, coercive behavior, and assault against Greenwood due to the departure of important witnesses and the discovery of “new material.” The forward for United refuted every accusation.

After deciding to launch their own internal investigation into the England international, the Red Devils announced that Greenwood would depart the team in order to restart his career elsewhere. Despite this, United insisted that they would continue to support Greenwood. The announcement came after a six-month evaluation.

Before the announcement, rumors circulated that United planned to keep Greenwood on as a player and bring him back into the starting lineup. However, the club changed their position in response to the outcry from the public. Consequently, there has been constant conjecture that the Red Devils may have second thoughts later on, possibly once his loan stint at Getafe expires.

However, GiveMeSport report that United’s position is ‘genuine’ and that Greenwood ‘will never play for the club again’. The Red Devils feel that they have a ‘responsibility’ to resolve the 22-year-old’s long-term future as he came through their academy as a child, but that does not mean that he will return to Old Trafford despite Paul Mitchell – who has been linked with a backroom role at United – watching him play for Getafe recently.

Greenwood has scored three goals in 10 appearances for Getafe since making his deadline-day move to the La Liga, earning plenty of plaudits from the Spanish media along the way for how he can be deadly anywhere across the frontline.

Several clubs are keeping a close eye on how the forward is developing, and it is reported that it is not just those linked to interested outfits that have travelled to Spain to watch Greenwood in action. According to Mundo Deportivo, in-demand free agent Mitchell watched Getafe face Cadiz earlier this month.

Mitchell has been heavily linked with joining United over the coming months after Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s purchase of a 25 per cent stake in the club is completed. The ex-Monaco chief is one of the most successful sporting directors in Europe, and Ratcliffe believes that United’s recruitment would improve markedly if Mitchell was to take the reins of the transfer side of the club
